What are the differences then between systems?

Here are some common points for consideration when considering the right system for you.

  • Colour:

All the different system companies offer different colours as standard, these generally will range from 2-3 colours subject to the manufacturer. Standard Colours are offered at no additional charge. Choosing a standard colour is a good way to keep your cost down. Aluminium systems can however be offered in any RAL colour of your choice including options for Dual Colour, that’s one colour inside and a different colour outside. If you select a non standard colour or a dual colour system you can expect to pay a paint-set up surcharge and expect extended lead-times over the standard colours of which the system profile is often in stock for a quicker manufacturing time should your project need this.

  • Thermal Efficiency:

Different Systems will boast different U-Values. A U-Value is the measure of any window or door systems thermal effectiveness. You will learn that different systems have varying U-Values.

  • Why are they different across different systems?

Most of the thermal effecieny in any window or door system comes from the glazing. This often constitutes around 80% of the overall area. In todays market there are a number of options to to consider around the type of glass you can specify.

Any sliding door comes as standard with Toughened Safety Glass with a Low Emission Coating applied to the inner pane. This is to reflect escaping heat back into the property.

Other glazing options include Laminated Security Glass or Solar Glass. We can explain the benefits of both of these upgrades during our consultation service.

  • Profile Dimensions:

Each of our Sliding Door systems will have a unique set of profile dimensions. The main focus is the “Interlock” This is the vertical bar which joins the doors. Different systems will offer varying size interlocks. These range from 20mm to 94mm. The size of the interlock will impede you view into the garden, so often the preference is the slimmer interlocks over the wider. This does also depend on your door width. Even a 94mm interlock over a 5200mm door, is only a 2% visual impedance.

  • Leadtimes:

Sliding door systems between manufacturers can vary in there delivery lead-time. Our more mainstream systems can be manufactured and delivered in lead-times as short as 3-4 weeks. Other more unique systems can take 8-10 weeks. Some decisions when it comes to Sliding Door selection are based around Lead-times dependent on the critical path of your own project. We can give you clear, accurate and concise lead-times for our entire range at your point of enquiry.

  • Handles and Tracks:

Different systems will have varying options for door furniture, track widths, handles, locks etc.. Systems are often selected based on a preference of handle type, colour and appearance. We can be clear about all the options over all our Sliding Door systems, so you can make the informed decisions as to what works for you.
